At one of the first ROOF summer camps in Belskoye Ustye.

ROOF outfits two children’s libraries – with everything from the books and media lists through the soft furniture and decorations – in two orphanages in Pereslavl-Zalessky, with a grant generously made by the Moscow International Women’s Club. Non-experts who solicit the advice of children’s librarians to compile the inventory lists compile library inventory lists – learning on the job. Local artisans in Pereslavl-Zalessky make beautiful but low cost furniture for the libraries.

ROOF’s Post Orphanage Education Centre opens to provide educational support, individually tailored for students’ needs, helping them to achieve the maximum level of education personally possible, to choose a career path, and to find work. Over the next several years, ROOF’s Post-Orphanage Education Centre grows to 100 students and becomes a real support community. The Centre’s literature, drama, film and theatre clubs are popular not only with post-orphanage students, but also with teachers and volunteers.

In July 2000, volunteers from ROOF run the first annual Summer Camp for the children of Belskoye-Ustye MHSD orphanage in Pskov Oblast.
